Flat, sating, or gloss? A question many people have is what sheen should I use?
For flat or matte paints we typically use them on ceilings because they will hide most imperfections and are easily touched up. Ceilings typically have more imperfections than walls, when the sunlight comes through a window and crosses the ceiling any imperfection will stand out if you have a shiny finish.
When dealing with walls we suggest satin or eggshell finishes. They have a harder finish than flat and carry a light shine. We use these sheens on walls due to their high tolerance to being washed and relatively easy touch ups. Satin finishes also hide imperfections much better than a gloss finish.
For trim, cabinets, and doors we like to use semi-gloss or gloss finishes. These finishes have the most durable finish which can handle the abuse most of these areas take. Gloss finishes show every imperfection and take more time to prepare and finish to be done properly.
When all finishes are done properly in your home you can achieve a paint job that can set your house above and beyond. The right paint job can be a worthwhile investment in your home that can add to the total value. So when deciding to refinish your home be sure to always consult with professionals.
